The Delusion of Coffee (Not Haiku)

Those first moments, I am filled

with heady possibility.

Lists of tasks & adventures--

cleaning bouts

beach trips

long walks

reorganizing cabinets, closets, & drawers

dance classes

laundry!

But as time drips by, realization dawns

that these dreams are just that.

I am left with this same old body,

which has never quite worked,

& ambitions larger

than a cup of coffee allow.

Feathery crane

stalks the grey sand

------

Blue water--

a lone sandpiper

and many gulls.

------

Far off laughter

bright yellow sun,

bright blue water.

October 1st Mournings for the Passing of Plum Season

Last Summer plum—
wrinkly purple.

October in the
produce section—
no plums at all.

Indian Summer
ends. No more ripe plums,
No more cherries.

—-

Last gasp of Summer—
one wrinkled plum.

(This last one is the best thing I’ve written in a long, long time.)

Outside Today

Outside today—
wildfire snow,
blood orange moon.

Fat bumblebees

The fat bumblebees—
moving dots on pink flowers,
green blackberry leaves.

Star jasmine

Star jasmine—
Finally I smell something
through this mask!

Overgrown yards

Overgrown yards
of neglectful neighbors
bask in the heat.
