Though the "Best by" date

Though the "Best by" date
is well past,
and the package has a hole,
the tea still smells like apricot
and Spring and reminds me of scones
with jam and that
though things are not as robust as they once were,
they still have value.

It's cold in the house.
I open the windows anyway
to smell Spring.

California Bluebirds

They say
There aren't really Bluebirds
in California.
We have Scrub Jays, but they still mean
Spring. And I just saw one.

Written Last Week

Each Spring
I put away my sweaters.
But it's not warm yet.

---
Thankfully
that rose bush resurrects
every Spring.

---
Lupine grows in the spot
where there's no concrete.
It dies by Summer.

---
Spring by the creek--
a turkey & I
walk the same path.

Written Today

Grayest May in decades;
yet, pinkish white blossoms on
the blackberry bush.

----

Low tide--
my feet crunch down rocks, shells,
and hermit crab bones.

----

Sign of Spring--
a bumblebee jumps into
a poppy head first.

----

This dreary May--
Sunshine in the form
of dandelions.

----

Star jasmin grows
on the outer walls
of the outhouse.

----

Solitary beach...
I see a pack of men
and turn around.

The smell of coffee
cheers me immensely on this
dreary Spring morning.

Written a Few Months Ago

Sriracha, noodles,
and chicken broth insulate
me from Spring's cold thaw.

Two birds celebrate
Winter's thaw with song, though Spring's
new air is still cold.
