Ugh, this heat!
Everything smells like dust,
even in the shade.
So look up to the green leaves,
the sanctuary of trees.

Comforting drumming

on the roof. Plants reach up to 

greet rain with parched leaves.

Dreary skies shine gray.
Muggy air presses down, but a
brown dove soars up, up.

In front of the Landfill on Richmond Parkway

Weedy, wild flowers
push themselves up anywhere
along the hard dirt.
